National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS) for Maintenance, Mass and Fatigue Management
NHVAS is a voluntary alternative to conventional heavy vehicle enforcement; Accredited operators must demonstrate that, their vehicles and drivers comply with standards set by the Scheme through regular Audits of their transport management systems and vehicle or driver assessments. The Scheme is intended to increase transport efficiency and allowing members greater flexibility in the management of their transport business and to provide transport operators with an alternative means to comply with regulations.
In order to become accredited to one or all NHVAS modules, operators who implement a system into their business must provide documentary and auditable evidence that they are complying with the Standards.
NHVAS consists of Three Modules:
- Maintenance Management
- Mass Management
- Fatigue Management for both BFM / AFM
Operators gain accreditation to NHVAS if they can prove that they comply with the Standards; To become accredited, operators need to:
- Develop your chosen Accreditation Systems
- Document the procedures that staff must follow to achieve compliance
- Produce (and keep for audits) sets of documents that prove compliance
- Undergo independent audits at set periodic intervals
